This is another very rare 1920s wig from a unique private collection in France that we were fortunate to acquire after many years. Very few examples remain today; most can only be found in museums or distinguished private collections.
These extraordinary wigs were quite the sensation during the Roaring Twenties. Due to their rarity, even a simple search will reveal only a handful of examples, typically held in museum collections or appearing in past sales.
This particular piece is one of the finest and most elegant wig cloches to be found. It is intricately woven from very fine raffia threads, forming the iconic hairstyle of the 1920s flapper era—complete with delicate finger waves throughout, pinned-up curls at the back, and a distinctive curl upon the forehead.
What makes this evening wig especially striking is its deep black color, enhanced by two small stylized foam ears, adding a theatrical and avant-garde touch. One can only imagine who once wore this remarkable piece, and the exquisite gown it must have accompanied.
A rare treasure from the Roaring Twenties, preserved in superb condition and still wearable today. The wig is constructed on a silk and cotton cap.
These types of wigs were highly fashionable during the 1920s and were even known as “bad hair day” wigs. They were produced in various versions, yet very few have survived to the present day. Today, they are almost exclusively found in museums or private collections.
This example comes from a private collection and is regarded as a beautiful relic of the past—a true museum piece.
