US$269.00
Item number: DIV-1445

For sale: a special antique hat, known as a Bicorne, from the prestigious École Polytechnique. Founded in 1794 by the National Convention in Paris and militarized in 1804 by Napoleon I, the École Polytechnique is renowned for its historical significance. This Bicorne dates from around 1880/1900 and comes with its original box, which is a rare and unique find.

Unlike Napoleon's style of wearing the Bicorne across the width of the head, this Bicorne was worn straight ahead. The hat is in good condition, thanks in part to the well-preserved wooden box with a closure that has kept it safe over the years.

The Bicorne was worn on formal occasions and was an integral part of the costume. This beautiful piece is perfect for collectors or as a decorative item with its original case.

Founded in 1794 by the National Convention and militarized by Napoleon I in 1804, the École Polytechnique was originally located in Paris but moved to Palaiseau in 1976.
